The back up plan for weddings

It’s been 2years of making plans only for them to change last minute.

Does anyone else feel like you’re in a game of Jumanji and you don’t know what’s around the corner? Same.

Let’s get ahead by implementing my top tips for your ultimate backup plan so if anything touches your original wedding plan you’re not sitting on the floor wondering where to start.

Rain

It happens more than you think here in sunny QLD. Discuss wet weather options with your venue. Let all your vendors know the wet weather plan so they can prepare also.

Photographers may need extra lights, florists may need extra stands or tools to attach flowers to different items, you might need more chairs or decorations.

Road closures

Having backup routes to the venue is a great idea. when creating your timeline always allow additional travel time. Know the alternative roads, checking google maps when it’s getting close to leaving time will show any road closures or accidents to avoid.

Communication

Have a source of communication for all your guests, if something changes have a place you can update everyone at once. Facebook events are fantastic for this, on my wedding day we realised we put the wrong street address for our backyard wedding on all the invitations lol. The facebook group was a life safer as what the neighbour in number 67 for redirecting the lost guests :)

Change of venue

If for some reason your wedding cannot go ahead at your venue, power outage, restrictions etc it’s a good idea to have a back up plan.

Make a list of alternative venues you love and call around a couple of weeks before to see if they still have your date free. Make a list of those that do so you can call back if needed. Can you have a back yard wedding? What would that involve? Have an action plan ready to pick up if needed so you know exactly what you need to do.

Vendor change

Be open to last minute changes to your chosen vendors, a celebrant may need to send a fill in or the lead singer of the band may need to change. It’s a strange and wacky time everyone is trying their best to stay in good health and to make it to every wedding. Chat to your vendors and ask for their back up plan.

Guests lists

Make a list of your ride or die guests, if you need to reduce numbers know who’s not making the cut beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings and stress. Your guests will totally understand.

Go with the flow

Most importantly just enjoy yourself, your day is special no matter what and your mindset can make or break how you spend the day. I hope if we learned anything over the last two years it’s resilience and flexibility.
