How much time do we need a photographer for ?

The million $ question and sometimes a pain in the ass to work out as you have never been married before and have no idea what you want to be captured. You’ve found your photographer but now how long do you need them?

I have some tips and explanations to help you out.

What is important to you

Do you want to remember every moment from start to finish, from the early morning nerves with your wedding party and parents to the messy dance floor with your wild high school friends? or do you want the formalities and some cute photos of you and your new wife or husband?

First work out what’s important to you both.

Destination

Think about where your wedding is going to happen. Is everything happening at the one venue or does your photographer need to travel in between?

Having everything in one venue could mean less coverage is needed to capture everything you need.

Hours = $$$

Although photographs and video will be the only memories you will keep from your day I understand that everyone has their budget and it’s important to feel comfortable with what you are spending.

I am seeing a lot of couples juggle this by removing photos of them getting ready or the late-night party.

My advice to couples here is to book what you are comfortable with now, often my 6hr package and when it gets closer and you have money left in the budget you can always add some time on.

My recommendation

Full story, start to finish don’t want to miss a thing - 8-10hrs

We want the formalities and the party - 6- 7hrs

We want the getting ready to the first dance - 6-7hrs

We want the ceremony, family photos and photos of the newlyweds - 2-3hrs

There is no right or wrong amount of coverage, follow your values and what’s important to you.
